FDISK (Formatting Disk)

DISK is a very useful command. We can use it for create and delete partitions of a disk drive. It is also called DOS formatting. Today the use of FDISK command is almost enclosed because of this process comes during the installation of a window.  This process of formatting is very easy, quickly and reliable as compare to DOS. It is also called boot able formatting. 



1. Switch on your computer
2. Press short key (if any) to Enter BIOS Setting 

    a. Black screen appears when computer is started. It contains short keys at the bottom of the screen forget entrance in BIOS Setup. Short keys like F1, F2, F3, F10, Esc, Del/Delete…etc.


 
Types of Bios setting Style

  1. Table style
  2. Menu style



- Booting Files are required for Computer
  Boot/Windows Files loading on the Ram.
- Booting Files are provided to computer
  Through different Medias.    i.e. CD Rom, Floppy Disk, Hard Disk, Flash Drive, Network…etc.
 
- When purchase a new brand Computer from market it does not exists booting files in any  
   media.

- Now provide the booting files to computer from CD Rom 

- In that case CD ROM have to set as first boot device through BIOS settings.

 

- Insert Boot able CD
- After saving bios setting
-Show the massage (any key press to Boot from CD ROM) at bottom of bios screen when 
  restart the computer

Options

1. Boot from CD Rom
2. Boot from Hard Disk

 Options
1. Start Windows 98 setup form CD-Rom
2. Start Computer with CD-ROM Support.
3. Start Computer without CD-ROM support.



Booting files loading on the Ram from Windows 98 boot able CD


1. Create Dos partition or Logical Dos Drive
2. Set active partition
3. Delete partition or Logical DOS Drive
4. Display partition information
5. Change Fixed Disk Drive

Change disk drive option appears in that Case, If you have two hard disk in the same system.


Selection Method:
Select any option to type that number for example: you wish to select the first
Option (Create partition)


1. Create Primary DOS partition
2. Create Extended DOS Partition
3. Create Logical DOS Drive in the Extended Dos Partition

 
-If you wish make only single drive like
(C: Drive) then press (Y). 

-If you wish make number of drives like
C: & D: & E: & F: then press (N). 


 

  
Press Esc to back FDISK main menu
Now create Extended Dos partition
